Padme Amidala Kenobi stepped across the threshold of her new home and sighed. When Master Yoda said to go into hiding she hadn’t intended to live on Tattoine. Of course, she hadn’t planned on marrying Obi-Wan either, and that was working out quite well.
“I hate this.” She said as Obi-Wan stepped through the door, arms full of boxes.
“So do I.” he said “But we don’t have any other choice.” After Padme gave birth, her daughter, Liea, was sent to live with Senator Bail Organa and his wife, who had always wanted a little girl. Luke, her son, was sent to live on Tattoine with his Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. Obi-Wan and Padme were to go immediately into hiding, for fear of what the Emperor, or Darth Vader, would do. Obi- wan had found a decent sized house on the Dune Sea. Almost no-one lived out there, and Darth Vader would not come back to Tattoine, Padme was sure of it. Besides having to go into hiding, Obi-Wan was restricted from using the force. He was to discard of his Jedi robes and wear civilian clothes, which he said itched terribly. Obi-Wan and Padme hated Darth Vader for what he had done to them.
“He’s not my husband.” She told Obi-Wan after she gave birth. “He’s a monster.” Before going into hiding himself, Master Yoda reminded Obi-Wan that they were no-longer Jedi’s, simply, people.
“Quietly go into hiding, we must. Senator Padme’s family not even will know.” This was especially hard on Padme, for she was very close to her family.
“I hate hiding.” She snapped as Obi-Wan set down the boxes.
“I know.” He said and planted a kiss on her forehead. She smiled
“I’m sorry, I’m just tired from the trip.”
“I’ll finish unloading the speeder.” He said as he headed out the door. “And don’t go lifting something you can’t!” he hollered “You know what the doctor said!” Padme grinned, Obi-Wan was so sweet. Anakin was different in showing affection.
“He was very, intense when he wanted to express his feelings.” Padme thought. “He was always complimenting me, but something in his eyes always scared me. Everything had to be exiting or he was bored.” She thought to herself “I loved Anakin, but something inside him changed.” “Obi-Wan is very thoughtful, he makes me feel at ease.” She said aloud “His eyes are very calming.” She smiled. She remembered how he proposed to her, poor Obi-Wan, he was so flustered. Padme had never seen the man so clumsy.
He must’ve dropped the ring at least three times.
“But here we are.” She said aloud, smiling at the plain gold band around her finger. “I love him so.”
“What say?” Obi-Wan called from the doorway, over some boxes.
Nothing, just thinking how well I married.” She said, he grinned and kissed her.
“You better mean me.” He said, teasing.
“Who else?” she said and kissed him back. They looked around at the scads of boxes at their feet.
“You know, for a Jedi and a senator, we have a lot of junk.” He said
“Former Jedi, remember? You’re a civilian now, and my husband.” She said smiling.
“How could I forget?” he asked and she kissed him.
“Now, you go finish unloading the speeder, while I shake the sand out of our clothes and prepare lunch.”
“Yes ma’m!” he said and saluted her.
“Out!” she cried laughing as she flicked him with a dish towel. Obi-Wan dashed out of the room, howling with laughter.
Later that day the two of them sat in the living room on the floor, surrounded by boxes.
“Where on earth did I get so much junk?!” Padme cried. “Look at this, I have five of the same vase, exactly the same!! Who needs this much junk?!”
“You’re a senator, well, were a senator, you had a bigger home. A bigger home means more things.” He said cheerfully as he dug through a box of books.
“The books we keep, we both read, as for the knick-knacks, we keep a few with sentimental value and the rest we pitch.” Padme said.
“What about this?” Obi-Wan asked, holding up a small music box with a model of the Palace of Theeds on the top.
“Oh I can’t throw that away, I’ve had that since I was ten.”
“Okay, music box stays.” He placed it on the shelf above the fireplace and wound the key. “What’s it playing?” he asked after a moment. “I don’t recognize it.”
“Music of the Spheres, Strauss I think.” She said
“It’s pretty.” He said before delving into another box of books.
“Obi-Wan?”
“Hm.” He said, distracted with measuring the wall for the bookcase.
“How do you feel about children?” the tape measure snapped back.
“Huh?” now she had his attention.
“Children, how do you feel about them?” she asked again.
“Padme, are you pregnant?” he asked.
“No! I’m just wondering if, maybe, over the course of the next couple of years you might want children.”
“Oh.” he sat down “I hadn’t really thought about it.” They both sat on the floor, silent for a moment.
“How many kids?” he asked.
“Just one.” She said. She glanced at him trying to guess what he was thinking.
“I’d like that.” He said after a moment.
“Really?” she asked exitedly.
“Really.” Padme jumped up and squealed. She pulled him in for a hug and kiss.
”And you madame, will make a fantastic mother!!” he cried as he spun her around, Padme laughed and laughed.
As he lay in bed that night, Obi-Wan thought “How fortunate I am, to have such a wonderful wife.” Padme was such a spirited woman, and he loved her dearly. She always brightend his mood. He liked that. He remembered when they had admitted their feelings. It was on the transport to Nabbo to pack up her things. They were stowed away in the cargo hold, and shivering cold. “I hoped it to be a somewhat more romantic setting than a cargo-hold on an immigrant ship to tell you.” He had told her, she had simply laughed, saying it didn’t matter as long as she knew.
“What more could I want?” he thought drowsily.
“Obi-Wan?”
“Hmm?” he mumbled sleepily.
“Did you really mean it?”
“Did I mean what?” his voice was muffled by his hand under his cheek.
“Did you really mean what you said about, a baby?” she asked.
“Of course I did.” He said. He rolled over so he could put his arm around her.
“I’m glad.” She rested her head on his chest. He smiled and kissed her forehead. She laughed.
“What?”
“Your night shirt is itchy!” she said laughing.
“Oh, excuse me m’lady, I just couldn’t find my silk one this evening!” he said, teasing.
“Your making fun of me!” she said laughing.
“Well you asked for it!” he retorted and they both laughed. Soon the room was silent and Obi-Wan found himself drifting off to sleep again.
“Obi-Wan?”
“Hm?” he mumbled .
“What if he finds us, what if he takes me away from you.” Padme whispered. Obi-Wan wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly. “We won’t let him find us, and if he does,” he paused “I hope he get’s sand in his mask.”
“Obi-Wan.” She said as he shook the bed with his giggleling (a very un- former- jedi thing to do).
“This is serious.” She said “What if he does find out where the children are, and that I’m alive and that I’m married to you?”
”He’ll throw a tantrum as usual.” Padme glared at him through the dark “Look all kidding aside, I have alarms who will warn us if anything suspicious shows up. You said yourself he hates it here. And as for him taking you away,” he said wrapping his arms around her again “Just let him try to take you away from me, I’d take on the Emperor himself, before I let that happen.” He said and kissed her Padme sighed contentedly, satisfied with his answer.
“I love you.” She whispered
“I love you too.” He whispered back. Together they drifted off to sleep in each others arms.
